Island Officials indicate that many individuals are in arrears in
payment of their annual property taxes. This is a serious problem
for the community.

and arrange to make payment?

This notice is probably of greatest interest to those of you who don't live on the island. Those of us who are residents have been watching this issue unfold for a few weeks already.

Briefly - property taxes are due on April 1 each year. This year some tax bills went out with substantial increases (700-3,000%).
The Town Board has announced that these increases were done in error and that we all should pay the same rate this year as we did last year.

If you have not received a tax bill you may wish to check with the Town Board to be sure they have your correct mailing address.
Don't expect responses to e-mail on this subject. It is best to call directly and ask to speak to the person in charge of property tax records. Have your last year's tax bill handy so you can provide an account number and property description.

The Town Board has further announced that it will be more diligent in collections, and will seek legal remedy on unpaid taxes.

I offer the service of paying property taxes to the San Pedro Town Council for absentee property owners if you have not done so as yet.

Taxes are due by 25th June, 2010. Failure to settle your account will result in 1% penalty on your due balance and or legal action.
