Anyone given blood recently here in Belize ? I have a friend that needs a couple pints . When you give blood they give you credit , my friend needs 2 more credits if anyone can help .Please call if anyone can help ,blood type doesnt matter . call 628-7034 or 226-4000 . Thanks in advance

Can this be done at the Polyclinic...I hate needles...but for him I will do it...what is the procedure...just walk in????

Ho Samray last time I tried that Poly Clinic said no on the grounds that they could or would not fly the blood over to Belize City.

I called Tim right after seeing this post and he said it looks like they have the 2 pints covered. I told him I would be on standby in case they needed more. Hoping to be able to go see them tomorrow in the city.

There are many more restrictions to giving blood here than in most places due to lack of testing equipment. I tried to give blood a few years ago and was declined as I am allergic to penicilin and as they can't test the blood to confirm they wont accept it.

We can arrange a blood bank drive on the island, but the red cross needs to come to the island and then transport the blood to the blood bank. Blood only lasts a few months so a blood drive every 2 months would be super. Any volenteers to arrange and donate?

I think we are ok for blood right now. The blood was need to help get his liver functioning better.

Now we are working on a home care plan. Anyone who is willing to participate in any way be it visiting him or people willing to help with meals.He really needs our collective help right now to help him fight a good fight.

Central Blood Bank in Belize City will come to the island and test, draw , and transport blood back to the blood bank. I am away until August so will be unable to organize a drive but can help anyone that would like to do this one with information.
You will need a space with 2 areas to lie down, a bathroom, and a desk. The polyclinic would be great.
Give people about a week warning to start eating meat and leafy greens as many people were unable to give blood secondary to anemia.
Women with their periods can not give. People with penicillin allergies can not give.
Have cookies and juice available for those donors to eat and drink after.
But the nurses from BC will do everything else. Good luck

It's something I enjoyed doing here in the states but am unable since I visit Belize so often. One of lifes trade offs!

I won't be on the island until December, but would love to be part of a regular donation program. Preferably on the island, but would go to BC if needed. I'm O- which makes me a Universal Donor. I will also donate plasma. Like travelqueen, I used to donate quarterly in the States, but can no longer do so because of my regular trips to Belize. Please post if a regular donation program is either available or becomes available.

I'll donate too, because can't donate here at home due to trips to places afar (and Belize).

Here they work on credit system so it is not necessarily about blood type.

To my understanding if you say 2 pints of blood - they want you to supply 2 pints of any kind in order to keep the supply stocked.
