San Pedro Fire Department Places 2nd in National Fire Olympiad!

This year's National Fire Service Olympiad was held on Sunday July 18th at the People's Stadium in Orange Walk Town. Six proud residents of San Pedro left the Island early Sunday morning to showcase their abilities in performing the various drills that make them some of the country's finest Firemen.
Miguel Medina lead his team of five volunteers; Claudio Tzul, Lester Diaz, Miguel Ancona, Alex Manzanero and Andy Albeño to a very sucessful performance in this year's tournament. Competitors were required to compete in ten different fire drills in which San Pedro's team managed to acquired 13 trophies for placing first and second in the various drills. Competitors were judged by the time it took them to complete each drill successfully, with the competitor completing the drill withing the shortest amount of time being the winner. The overall time each team took to complete all ten drills was tabulated and the ream with the shortest time won. This year, San Ignacio Fire Station took first place and San Pedro brought home the trophie for second place. Congratulations to our San Pedro Fire Service team. Awesome Job!!!

S.P. Fire Department takes 2nd Place in the National Fire Olympiad

Fire-fighters from across the country gathered at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk on Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17, for the annual Fire-fighters Olympiad. The Olympiad which started out about 16 years ago displays the men’s fire fighting skills in various competitions. And this year the San Pedro Fire Department came in 2nd place and brought home a total of 13 trophies.

A total of ten teams participated in the competition, and fire fighters are required to perform ten different fire drills and an additional 5K marathon. Each drill was timed and the competitors with the least amount of time won. The overall time each team took to complete all ten drills was tabulated and the team with the shortest time won.

The San Pedro team placed first in The One Man Hose Drill and Four Man Pump Drill and the 5K Marathon, and second place in the Breathing Apparatus Drill, One Man Hose Drill (Strong man) and the Rescue Drill; a trophy was awarded to the winners of each drill.

The San Pedro Fire Department would like to thank all the businesses and friends that helped financially. The San Pedro Team practiced for about four months to prepare for the National Olympiad and will continue working arduously to improve their fire fighting skills.

“Every year the volunteers look forward to the being at the Olympiad. It is one of the main events for the volunteers,” commented Michael Middleton, Olympiad Coordinator to Love FM. “Each of them works hard to become a part of their team in their districts. This actually helps in the actual fire fighting where volunteers are there and they know exactly what to do when performing fire fighting.”

The San Pedro Team consisted of five volunteer fire fighters Claudio Tzul, Lester Diaz, Miguel Ancona, Andy Albeño and Alex Manzanero, Captain for the team was Fire Fighter Miguel Medina. Congratulations to the San Pedro Fire Department for a job well done!
