The Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association took a major hit over the weekend when four of their Toyota Hilux pickups were crow-footed by court marshals who were enforcing a judgment in favor of Brodies supermarket.

The court issued a writ of execution for a 2009 judgment for a long outstanding debt reportedly for the purchase of some fertilizers.

Two of the pickups were in use by Cuban Agricultural Project Officers. The Association had been on a payment plan, but it seems they were unable to live up to that requirement.

This embarrassing development sets the stage for what promises to be a contentious special meeting on Sunday when the membership may call for the removal of the entire management committee.

That is the culmination of what has been a terrible year for the cane industry with slowed production at the Tower Hill Factory.
