Worry about the permit first. Do a search on Vehicle Permits if this is an unknown to you. It will take at least 6 months from being here to getting one and there's no guarantee you will get one either, esp if it's just for personal use and you don't have your own home.

It is for personal use. i was planning on buying one in the states and having it shipped but am open to buying there to avoid the hassle. I see a lot of golf carts for sale but nothing else.

jeff, listen to Phil. I highly recommend you have the permit in hand before you attempt to bring an ATV or golf cart to AC. Even if it is for personal use!

I know of another poster who owned a home here and brought an ATV with him. He had to send it back to the mainland and I think he ended up selling it. Permits take time. Good luck.

You need a permit in hand before you buy any kind of vehicle even when you are living here. There was a notice a few weeks ago on the TV that said there is a moratorium on issuing new (not replacement) permits, not sure how long that will remain in place.
