Look up to the sky tonight or in the wee hours of tomorrow morning, as apparently there is to be a rare occurrence.
Two moons on August 27, 2010. Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting tomorrow. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate August 27th, when Mars comes within 34.65M miles off Earth. They say it will look like 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Should be a memorable sight if your weather is clear.
From my deck tonight, I can definitely see it, yet Mars is small compared to the moon...very bright...a cool sight. Still waiting to see some Mars martians
I saw it from my front yard until some cloud cover showed up. Brilliant, bright as the moon, sure not as big as the moon, but not surprised by that. Still very cool, very cool.
Thanks Laurie!

"This sky map shows the relative positions of the moon, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune in eastern evening skies, as seen on Aug. 26 from mid-northern latitudes. Under optimal conditions, Uranus and Neptune may be visible through binoculars — if you know exactly where to look."
Sky map from msnbc link.
To be honest, I have never seen Uranus and am not planning on looking for it!
