I read that precription drugs are 30% higer in Belize than in the states. I also read that health insurance is inexpensive.
Can anyone give input on this. My wife and I are exploring moving there and drug cost maybe a mjor expense that could derail our dream. Thanks,Jerry.

Are you planning to work and be in our social security system?
That would help with the expense.
The cost of doctors and medicine are cheap in my opinion.
but you might want to call direct to check the doctors price for your particular meds. They all speak english.

Some are much cheaper some are just not available. I am diabetic so my metformin and glyburide are 30 US for a container of 500. Other relatively new meds in the Us are not available at all here.

a lot of drugs that are Rx in the US are not Rx in Belize (or Mexico). I was paying $50-60/pack for birth control pills in the US, and only 3.00/pack in Belize or 4.00/pack in Mexico. (And yes, they work!)
Rx drugs in the US are a complete ripoff.

The meds could be a major handicap for you, especially since you are only able to bring a 30 day supply down.

So many RX's are simply not available here (my migraine ones, my husbands BP ones). We try to order them, but there are delays,etc, which can be scary.

One option you should explore perhaps: There is a mailbox express that will allow you to ship to an address in MIA and import to Belize, but I am not sure how Medications are handled with customs. If you were set up on mail order refills, and had your prescriptions in the box, that might work.

If you figure out a way to get what you need, please let everyone else know as well
