recycle your wine/ liquor bottles
|
|
Hi Everyone As we prepare to open the prior "Casa Picasso" as "Picasso Wine and Spirits" we are always in need of your empty bottles. We can use your wine, the small smirnoff ice and various other liquor bottles (well, except the Caribbean Rums with the crazy neck contraptions - too bad!). Please PM me or feel free to drop off directly in front of Casa Picasso - bin coming soon Thanks so much!

I actually thought of that, Amanda! This is currently a fad for recyclers in the US and the result is a heavier glass, which is great for afternoon cocktail hour on windy decks. LOL Cutting is not an issue, but the trick would be making a smooth surface. Do you guys have any ideas on this? Perhaps glass blowing? If anyone wants to give it a try, I am happy to share bottles as some types might work better than others and I have quite a large variety of styles

Thanks Judyann We will be sure to post openings and hours when we are open. The idea is that our products will be made here on the Island using local products and you get to taste / try before you buy... Did I mention "wholesale to the public"? Wish us luck

I'll be back down in December and can bring you the bottle cutting/polishing (and even the etching) kit if you want. They're pretty fun.

Most definitely. I'll just plan on picking up the standard set at a craft store, but if there's a specific model or anything else you want, just let me know.

Guess what? Glass cutting and bottle recycling is groovy again! If I may (indulge myself a bit)... Growing up, my mom used to make wine (albeit very very sweet) out of blackberries every year and when got old enough we drank it out of jelly glasses. She canned vegetables we grew in our garden and our family rarely ate a meal outside of the house. The preacher and his wife had a standing invite to our house for Sunday lunch. We weren't cool enough for candles, but I did paint my nails blue once. I thought we were freaks and my mom was a nerd. Now, as I try to grow my own vegetables, avoid fast food and make my own wine out of sea grapes and pineapple, I appreciate those influences. Not sure I could pull off the blue polish, but my feelings remain the same regarding the preacher.... The moral of the story is that, sometimes if you wait long enough, things may eventually come back into style LOL I cannot wait to give it a go

My daughter wants to build our ourdoor kitchen (fogon)out of booze bottles used like cement blocks placing them in cement neck down.
I saw a lot staked head high in plastic bottles. Since they never deteriorate it made me wonder about filling them with water and using them like cobbles and laying them out then cover with sand and another layer of bottles, etc to fill low areas.

we're also interested in anyone making cut down beer/rum etc bottles for drinking glasses etc.
also cotton grocery bags, and recycled plastic bags. We are trying to be more committed to using compostable ingredients (buying veg without packaging for example, not using plastic bags), compostable packaging and recycled and recyclable packaging. We are trying to use paper packaging and to encourage customers to bring their own refillable water bottles and containers. Ihope that san pedranos will support us in this effort and i hope that we can encourage others to be a plastic bag free society here on la isla bonita. thanks!

Kudos to your business for thinking about the impact of packaging and encouraging customers to do the same! Here in the US ten years ago, no one took their own bags to the grocery stores, and now it is widely acceptable. Stores even sell inexpensive ($1/each or thereabouts) reusable bags for customers to bring back each time they shop. My husband and I have been bringing our own bags to stores for years, and while we used to be considered wacky hippies, now we're mainstream. We are going to be moving to San Pedro next year and will be continuing in our hippie ways. We'll definitely be customers of your Deli and will bring our own bags! Together, we can all help to change the world. :-)

Love it! When we are (finally) open, we will be using the woven re-usable bags and provide incentives for return bags and "refilling" bottles....
On another note, wine corks cannot be re-used, but they are great for garden soil as they provide lightweight aeration for the soil. So, don't toss those corks!

Perhaps someone out there is proficient with knitting needles...you can make a re-usable shopping bag out of plastic shopping bags. See link below. http://www.allfreecrafts.com/knitting/bag.shtmlI have a friend who is going to try this same pattern, but use the tape from old VHS tapes as the "yarn".
