Just wanted to post the flag signal info:

The preliminary flag is a plain red flag. This will go up when a Hurricane may threaten within 72 hours.

Red I - 2nd phase - a hurricane may threaten within 36 hours. This flag is red with a large black dot in the middle.

Red II - 3rd phase. A hurricane is likely to strike with 24 hours. This is 2 flags one above the other. Each flag is red with a black dot in the centre of each flag.

Phase 4 - Hurricane has passed. This flag is green.

You need to wait for the all clear phase 4 before you start traveling or attempting to clean up. Remember that the eye of a hurricane can be miles wide and it is calm. You may think that the storm has passed, but you are actually in the middle and the other half of the storm is going to affect you.

The flag should be displayed at the San Pedro Town Council offices and also at the police station.

The most reliable official information will be broadcast on the radio.

The NEMO emergency contact telephone number is 636. http://www.nemo.org.bz/

Burning open flames in an enclosed space can lead to asphyxiation.

There are a lot of preparedness notes within this message board - run a search. There are check lists and supply lists.

The time to prepare is upon us.

This could affect us strongly. This morning forecast had it to Belize as maybe Tropical Storm. By this afternoon they have upgraded to a tropical storm and predict Cat 1 for Belize. The importance is it is not doing exactly as they have predicted so it needs careful monitoring. A slight shift could put it over San Pedro. If it slows down it could strengthen. We need to all remember Keith.

By this time of the year your preparations should be mostly complete, with only a few items left to do as we see a storm approach. Without proper preparations it may be best to leave and get ready earlier next year as it does look like a "direct hit", just not too intense yet. Compare tomorrow's observations with todays predictions to get an idea of whether or not they have a handle on the storm with accurate predictions. Scurrying frantically trying to get ready as you see it approach is not the answer. We would be wise to assume the worst from this one.
