My impression so far is that the Tea Party is red neck, It sounds like a wonderful idea having another choice and I love the name, but my exposure to them so far has just been red necks, I hope I'm wrong.
This one doesn't seem to be a neck.

"Redneck is historically a derogatory slang term to refer to poor white Southern farmers in the United States."(wiki)

Depends on your defintion of redneck, Elbert. I was born to middle class in New Jersey, never poor and never a farmer but consider myself a redneck politically.

The tea party is not all "red necks", believe me. A lot of people like your everyday neighbors just sick and tired of being raked over the coals by politicians for the last few decades until there isn't a heck of a lot of differences between the two major parties. They have both become disconnected from their constituents, and the time may be right to remind them that they do work for US, and that we do remember their promises from the last elections cycle that were backed up with more excuses. Same old Same old does not cut it anymore.

Not a tea partier, but definitely an interested observer. Let's see how it breaks.

Rykat Its OK to be a self proclaimed Red neck , and I had my suspicions :-)
My brothers are all good old boys from the south that have pickup trucks, work the trades, drink beer and wont visit me because they 'ain't goin to no furin country'.
Bobber you sound like what i was wanting to hear. Its possible the majority of the people feel like that.
Palin's affiliation will harm the Tea Party cause more than a little neck image.

I had joinged every third party group that sprung up in hopes of better choices. Just today I packed away my two (yet to be worn) Ross Perot t-shirts.
I wore a Jesse Jackson button one year and was last registered as a Libertarian.

HOWEVER - do you guys listen to what they proclaim? Bill Maher had a woman on Monday night who spouted all kinds of misinformation. Some of these folks really scare me. But what the heck - sometimes I scare myself.

I'm sure Bill Maher could buy anyone to say anything. Methinks you need a different source for your politics, Harriette! Maybe Colbert or Stewart would be better? sick

(btw: Should be able to pick up some Ron Paul tees real cheap - pre shrunk and pre-worn!) grin
