A modern and well equipped resource center that will serve residents of San Ignacio and Santa Elena in the Cayo District, including students from Primary, secondary and tertiary level institutions will be inaugurated on Wednesday. The project included the rehabilitation, remodeling, extension and conversion of the Old San Ignacio Meat Market building located behind the Scotia Bank on Riverside Street. The upgraded center will house the current library which has been housed for several years in the lower flat. Total cost for the project is estimated at approximately $377,474. Of this amount the Government of Belize contributed $213,374. Over 1,500 persons are expected to benefit from the new lower flat of the San Ignacio Resource Center especially its students. The project is a joint venture of the Social Investment Fund, the San Ignacio Town Council, the National Belize Library Service and Information system and the Rotary club of San Ignacio.
