I am wondering if there is a reputable eye doctor there on Ambergirs Caye. We are going to be on the caye in February and my husband would like to go to an eye doctor there - he assumes it will be much cheaper then here in rural Oregon

I know of no eye doctor on AC. There is one in Belize City.
Don't assume things are cheaper here, necessarily. Sometimes going to a medical practitioner here can be about the same as the States. It's kinda a pay what you can afford thing, and it is often assumed that gringos can afford to pay more. So, gringos are charged more. That isn't a bad thing either, as local Belizeans who might not be able to afford much, can get medical care. Think of the "sliding scale" of your local community run clinic.

Hoy Eye Center doc no longer comes out to the island? He used to have a regular island schedule and I saw him in SP.

Belize does not have the "medical tourism" that some other places do. Yet.

Here are the 3 opthamologists I know in Belize City. I have been to the first 2 and consider them excellent; also just walked in without an appointment. Consultation fee was BZ$50 to $60 a few years ago.

Dr Hegar Amin, 9 Daly Street
Phone: 224-5038 or 224-4840

Dr Victoriano Valdez, corner Lizarraga Ave & St Thomas St
Phone: 223-5886

Hoy Eye Center, corner of St Joseph & St Thomas Streets
Phone: 223-0994

I also know a good opthamologist in Chetumal (MX$300 per consultation), but he doesn't speak English (let me know if you need the address). I think there is another one who does speak English, but I haven't got any more information about him.

There should be no question about the reputations of Drs. Valdez and Amin; they were recommended first & second by medical professionals.
