San Pedro Police have confirmed the detention of one person as part of their investigation into the robbery that occurred last night at Wings Store. While no official release has been made by the Police Department, The San Pedro Sun was able to confirm the detention of male of a Belize City address.Sometime around 8:30 last night, Pakarshi Wadhwa, the manager of Wings Store, located on Coconut Drive in San Pedro, was heading to his apartment located in the second floor of the same building when he was attacked. Wadhwa had just closed the store, located on the lower flat of the building when he was ambushed inside his apartment building and was beaten in the head before robbed of two cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of money both in cash and checks.

Will the crime ever stop in San Pedro.

Like the Lebanese, all the other Store owners need a gun.
Because all the Lebanese were guns there are no robberies on there places.

Living in the south, Marinas got robbed a view times, Espinosa and now Marina’s Store Extension Shop.

If the crime gets more worse, in Belize, the State Department will issue a Travel Warning. Welcome in the Ware Zone.

On a Holiday in Somalia with all the pirates they have offshore, you will be more save as in Belize.

The government is busy with itself with all the immigration, the latest cocaine plane and corruption scandals. Sad but true, before independence Belize was a much safer place.

DUO REMANDED TO PRISON IN CONNECTION WITH SAN PEDRO ROBBERY

November 24, 2010

Two men have been remanded to prison following the robbery of a business last Wednesday on Ambergris Caye. Jorge Aldana reports from San Pedro Town.

Jorge Aldana Reporting...

Two men have been arrested, charged, taken to court and remanded to the Hattieville Prison following the robbery of Wings store and its manager last week. The two men are 33 year old Oliver Peters of a Belize City address and 31 years Edward Barona of DFC Area in San Pedro Town. According to police, sometime around 8:05pm on Wednesday, November 17th, the Manager of Wings Store, 39 year old Pakarshi Wadhwa, reported that he was attacked, robbed and injured by two men of dark complexion. Wadhwa told police that he was heading to his apartment located on the third floor of the building when he was attacked. Initial police investigation reveals that Wadhwa had just closed the store, located on the ground floor and was entering his apartment when he was ambushed inside. While in his apartment, the men took away his gold chain and his cellular phone and also his wife’s cellular phone and a gold anklet. The men then proceeded to escort him to the ground floor, which houses Wings Store where they stole an undisclosed amount of money. One of the two culprits then took a hammer and hit him twice in the head injuring the well shaken Wadhwa, after which they made good their escape. It is uncertain how the men gained access to the upper flat of the building and how much money in cash was stolen. According to police after the surveillance cameras on the building were reviewed, they noticed that the cameras captured images of part of the incident. Hence with the help of the images captured by surveillance cameras, police were able to apprehend the individuals that fit the images caught on the surveillance cameras. As a result of the incident, that same night police arrested Peters and Barona. The duo has been charged for the crime of Burglary and Oliver Peters was additionally charged for the crime of Wounding. Both men have been arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court before Magistrate Patricia Arana where they were denied bailed and since been remanded to the Hattieville Prison until their next court appearance.

It is time for more businesses to install security camera systems. In the USA they're relatively inexpensive although here in Belize I believe the GOB charges an arm and a leg in duty. Perhaps the SPBA and AC Chamber of Commerce could lobby to make such systems duty free.

You can get a decent system at Brandsmart for under $350US. Here in Belize I saw one at Sp Hardware for a whopping $2500BZE.

I will install a system at Pelican Properties just to look out onto the street. You never know when it'll spot something or someone!

I agree, but make sure to get some important features like battery backup, motion detection recording and of course recording in darkness. Viewing over the internet is not possible in Belize because BTL does not open the ports you would need for that.

I don't know about what cable is available on AC, but on the Placencia Peninsula we have Southern Cable and they don't block anything. We watch our Stateside businesses from our house in Belize.

We are connected via BTL. Our technician spent hours to find a way but failed. Even buying additional IP addresses did not help. Still paying for that.
