Colindaco Offline
I heard that a few years ago there was some sort of initiative from the village council to allow land owners to fill in the foreshore area to extend and protect their properties. A good example would be the Tropical Paradise and neighbors to the South. Is this "foreshore stabilization" still practiced, allowed and accepted ?.
Also..... I have heard of a 66' Marine set-back on Caye Caulker. Can someone tell me if this applies to the whole coastline of both islands; or do some parts of the islands not apply?. And if it does apply does it mean that no-one can build a structure anywhere on their property within that 66' zone; And If this is indeed a fact may I presume that all existing structures are grandfathered?

The 66' rule is officially correct. Belize is rife with nepotism, be it on family loyalty grounds or financial favors. Obviously, you would be hard pressed to find a spot on Caye Caulker where this rule is not bent. I have seen locals usurp boat docking frontage directly in front of land their relatives sold as waterfront. The Gov. can be bought at any level.
Recently people on the north island with waterfront lots were displaced by more waterfront lots dredged up directly in front of them, cutting them off from the sea. Caveat emptor.
