And now the police department will have a new public face to explain all the killings. He is Rafael Martinez, former BDF Officer and more recently public relations officer for Red Cross and other Organizations. Martinez who is also a well travelled emcee takes over from Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, who took over the post from Clement Palacio less than a year ago.

The change is significant because Yearwood is a veteran police officer - while Martinez is a newcomer to the department. What's the logic of it? Well it may have something to do with the fact that the CEO of the Police Ministry, Major George Lovell is also ex military.

An official release says Martinez brings, quote:

"a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is necessary to foster a stronger relationship between the Ministry of Police the Media and the General Public."

We note that unlike his predecessor, Martinez will be responsible for Public Relations extending beyond the Police Department to the Belize Central Prisons and Ministry of Police and Public Safety.
