On Saturday 27th November, 479 police men and women from the ranks of Constable to Sergeant sat the promotional exams countrywide. That's one in every three officers who wanted a promotion - but tonight, the results are out and very, very few of them earned it. We'll have those results shortly, but first, some background. The exam is divided into two parts: subjective and objective each worth a hundred points and the passing mark for the objective is 65% and the subjective, 60%.
7news has been leaked a copy of the results, and they are abysmal. Of the 470 candidates, only 39 passed. That means only 8% of the test-takers achieved a grade equal to or above 65/60! The constables showed the most promise - and that's not saying much: of the 293 who sat, 29 received passing grades.

Of the 109 corporals who sat, only four(!) passed - that's a passing rate of about 3.5%. Of the 77 sergeants who sat the exam, six of them passed.

And even for those who passed, promotion is not automatic. There are other requirements which have to be met.

This is no surprise, I guess they should lower the passing grade down to about 35, then at least they can claim to have the smartest patrolmen around, or maybe they should only hire candidates that have completed second form.

Police Grades Passing Mark Even Lower Than Prescribed

On Friday night we told you about the abysmal grades on the police promotional exam. Well it's not as bad as we thought - but that's because the passing grade of 65-60 listed in the police orders were changed at the last minute and substituted with a more permissive 60-60.

With that grade, it means that of the 479 police men and women who sat the test, 111 passed; under the 65-60 passing mark - which, again, was listed in the police orders, it would have been only 39.

The constables performed best, 84 of 293 passed; of the 109 Corporals, 14 passed, and of the 77 Sergeants, 13 passed. That means of the 479 who took the test - under the 60 - 60 passing mark, 111 passed.

That means that 23% of the 479 test-takers got a passing grade.
