Coming to AC this weekend. Do you purchase duty free alcohol before you go through Belize customs or do you purchase after customs where Jet's Bar is?? I get confused. Can't wait it's going to be below zero tonight.
Thanks

Purchase your incoming duty free before you come through customs next to the baggage claim

When you get off the plane you will line up for immigration (passport checks) then you will be in a big hall waiting for your suitcases to land on the conveyor belt. In this hall you will find the duty free shop. You can purchase "incoming" booze at this shop. They sell other items, I think cigarettes, maybe some perfume too. I am not sure since I tend to buy a bottle of whiskey and vodka and then run to get my bags.

Brr, get your butt to Belize quick sharp. Much warmer here.

Travelers are limited to 1 bottle duty free from outside the country (most allow 2 bottles, so this is confusing).

On arrival to Belize, there is another duty free shop with misc items where you can purchase either 4 or 6 bottles per person (I think it depends on the sizes). The selection is fairly limited. Save room in your checked bag for it, however, as they won't allow liquids in your carry on.....

The US will allow 2 bottles duty free (as opposed to Belize's 1 bottle limit) as long as it is unopened and you have the receipt.

Hello, I'm just joining the board as we'll make our first visit to AC later this month. The duty-free alcohol thing is confusing me. Is there more than one duty-free store where you can buy alcohol to bring into Belize? Appears that one store will let you buy more than another (seems odd)?

Since I've never been there yet, am I going to find alcohol to be VERY expensive?

Thanks for any help clarifying this!

Or - drink the local rum - it's cheap and rum drinkers tell me it's not too bad.

Any imported booze that is available on AC is expensive. Your best bet is to purchase it at the INCOMING Duty Free store located in the luggage claim area at Belize International. You are allowed FOUR bottles per person.....two people = 8 bottles......more than enough to keep you sloshed for a week grin
