How old are the kids and how long do you plan to be in the city?

Barracks Road is in a relatively "safe" part of town. It's quite close to the airstrip.

The Princess Hotel is nearby which has a movie theatre, bowling, a pool and a rustic over the water restaurant.

I like to take the kids to the Belize Museum which is nearby also, next door to the Central Bank.

Do you mean the fruit/vegetable market?
If so, yes it's open everyday (not sure about Sunday), but it's located next to the bus terminal (in an area of town most people don't consider the safest part of town) and along way from Barrack Road.

Also at the Princess, there is a video game arcade in the same room with the bowling alley.

BTL Park, beside the Princess Hotel, has swings, slides, etc. There probably won't be anyone in the park on a Wednesday, and you might not like to be there either. There are occasionally characters you might not like the look of -- if so, avoid the place.

Queens Square Market, now called the Michael Finnegan Market. Take taxis, don't walk around.

We are only going to be ther for a couple of hours is there a way to get to the zoo? I was reading about a craft market in the "tourist" district near where the cruise ships come in. Marty wrote about it

There are some craft shops in that area of town -- along North Front Street, near Memorial Park and near the Tourist Village.

Some people also set up craft stands on the days when cruise ships arrive. Check here for the cruise ship schedule:

The zoo is about 29 miles from the City. You can get there by bus, but you need more time than 2 hours (50 minutes each way plus a couple of hours at the zoo). The easy way is by taxi, but that might be expensive.

Here are a few other ideas, but these places are outside Belize City too...

I suggest you make the time to go to the zoo. It is well worth it.
On another note, there is a good, new restaurant open. It is the Albert St cafe, corner of Albert and I think Bishop. Really good, clean , friendly and for 5 dollars you can get saffron rice, chicken, and potato salad. Also green salad available.

If I had just two hours in Belize City I would go to the Belize City Museum, and have lunch at Bird's Isle, Old Belize or Riverside Tavern.
