How important is air conditioning when selecting a hotel? I'll be in Belize and AC from late July to mid August. I'm a student traveller, so I don't need luxury, but I don't want to be miserable either [Linked Image]

Thanks

Depends on where you are staying at!!! if you are up high and in the middle, you will be fine with a fan... if not... then I would suggest a A/c... you need the wind, just depends where you are stayin.... Rick

AC is a must in AC in the time period you will be here. Without it you will be drenched in sweat. It is extremely humid with temps in the 90's and days with not much wind. It is like Texas and Florida. It has already been necessary to turn on the AC a few time in the last few weeks, and we live on the beach.

I rarely if ever use A/C and I have been here for 12 years I dont particularly like it as it bungs me up, however it really depends on you and where you are from in the states.

There is however about 2 weeks of the year when i do use it because of the humidity thats the only time my a/c is turned on.

We have people who will absolutely not even think of renting anywhere without a/c even when there really is no need for it, a good fan is all you need but then again many people are so used to a/c that they cannot live without it.

best regards

Gaz

Barefoot is right! It's the humidity that gets you.The heat just makes it worse.

Thanks all for your replies.

rickcheri - I've heard that the 2nd floor is best. I'll remember that when booking

jackieo - I'll be in Belize from around the 15 of July to mid-August... I'm not sure how much of that time will be in AC yet, as I'd also like to see some of the mainland junges. I'll probably try to stay at Rubies, as I've heard a lot of positive comments on them, and the price is closer to my somewhat limited budget!

barefoot - I'm a desert kid (Arizona) currently in Oregon for school, so hopefully my mix of heat and humidity will prepare me!

Gaz - What two weeks are those? Also, if I were to bring a small fan, are the power supply and outlets similar to the USA?
--------------------------

Also, I definitely want to learn to dive while in AC. Does anyone have any additional activities suggestions that may be fun?

Thanks again!

Hey, OHSU Wild child! My husband graduated from OHSU. Power hook ups are the same (at least they were where we stayed!) Have a great time! The worst day in Belize is better than the best day in Oregon (well... except for the Hurricaines!)

Hi KC!!

What did your husband graduate in? I'm in the dental program. Thanks for the info... I'll watch out for those hurricanes!

OHSU WC - Well, ain't that a coincidence. He graduated from the dental school, too. Mind you, this was a few years ago -- 1980. Those were some VERY HARD years for a family. We had two small children at the time. Good luck to you!
