For those of you who are expats from the US, I'm curious to know what you've done about health insurance. Did you take out an international/expat policy? Any experiences, recommendations, NON-recommendations, pros/cons etc. are very welcome. We do not yet qualify for Medicare and are exploring our insurance options for when we move to San Pedro. We are very healthy, fit, and rarely ill.

R F & G now has it's own version of something very like BUPA.

We have the RF&G insurance with US coverage and it works out about $2000US for both of us for the year. The premium price varies by age - we are mid 40s. They also have a policy that only covers care in Belize, Mexico and Guatemala which is cheaper. There is also an additional option to cover dental but they actually advised against it, as they only pay out after a year and the policy is considered an annual renewable - so they would never pay!
