The lack of copyright law has been a blessing to Belize. If you look deeper its not a positive thing to have copyright law forced on us.
A few artist might appreciated it but big business franchises have stayed away and small Belizean businesses have flourished because of our lack of copyright laws.
With the laws in place we are very likely to now have Kentucky fried chicken instead of rice and beans with chicken and so forth. Everyone from Mennonites to Garafuna will suffer a new competition that will overwhelm.
Belize has been bullied to have copyright laws and now the bullies will rape us.

Its definitely a two sided coin. Artist will be helped, but independent Belizean business will suffer competition form large international franchises that have stayed away in the past from fear of being copied.

The brand franchises have mainly stayed away do to quality control, on site mngmt and the difficulties associated with importation of products specific to their brand.

Which is a good thing!!!

one of the things i love most, and tell clients about with great pride is our lack of chains. without McDonalds, KFC etc folks are much more inclined to try local foods and learn about belize's amazing culture. We havent been homogonized (sp) and turned into yet another culturally flavorless island/country.

Look at Subway in Belize City and see how long it lasted. Not enough people or profit in Belize is what keeps the big corp out I believe.

We do have intl copyright laws we have to follow as per the Hague Convetion.

copyright laws are gonna slowly die. technology is too much for them i think.

Try to buy an original DVD or CD here. Next to, if not, impossible.

Believe it or not I do have an original, still in packaging 48th anniversary edition of the Sound of Music (don't ask how I ended up with it), if anyone happens to want one.
