Yes everyone is fine.....thank God!.........they really need a tug or barge service to remove the boat from the reef as soon as possible..........damage to the reef was minimal as it is an impacted zone from previous large craft groundings...........however the sooner the better..............and contacts or advice would be greatly appreciated ..........One other important thing to note is they were trying to enter to sign out of Mexico and were unaware that Xcalak no longer issues those papers............if they had known this.........the disaster would have been avoided

I think they have to be salvaged by the Mexican's because they are not in Belize so Belizean's can't launch a salvage operation.

It doesn't sound like they are in international waters.

They must not have hired a local guide to help them - otherwise it would have been unlikely that would have misinformation regarding customs and immigration - and they would know the safe channels to use.

All around quite a shame.

Do you have any more info on this couple? I think that this is family of mine. Whereabouts? Status on boat? Salvage operation in progress? Anything will help. Should be Points North...

Hi Amanda,
They simply need help salvaging what is left. As well immigration and other irresponsible Mexican governmental ministries as such have no honorable intentions regarding jurisdictional authority in these matters. As for guides..........you must be joking.....TIM................This Is Mexico!

Relaxed nobody should really take any legal advice or opinions from any anonymous poster on this, or any board.

Didn't realize you were in Mexico, obviously you know what you are talking about.

It would be interesting to see a Mexican salvage ship entering Belizean waters and removing a vessel from the Belizean reef - perhaps we don't follow the same regs.

Is the barrier reef in Mexico also considered part of the world heritage site?

Many years ago we used to conduct salvage operations, but now we leave that for the younger set.
