Women’s Photo and Film Exhibition will open at the Institute of Mexico
Belmopan, 22 March 2011. – As part of the Women’s Month, the Mexican Embassy will host a Photographic and Film Exhibition on Wednesday, March 23rd, at the Institute of Mexico in Belize City. The Exhibit´s main objective is to create awareness on gender violence issues and publish information on public projects that can contribute to women´s empowerment.
The photographic exhibition includes 30 posters designed by Women, using their artistic skills, and creativity. Through these posters, women denounce the excruciating reality of gender violence in different cultures and countries.
During the exhibition the short film “En el tiempo de las mariposas” will be presented. It tells the story of a group of sisters that fought for the release of their husbands during the Dictator Leonidas Trujillo’s regimen in the Dominican Republic.
The event will also present some woman from Mayan communities in Mexico who have actively participated in development projects.
The opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd, at 6:00 pm, at the Institute of Mexico in Belize. Entrance will be free and open to the general public. The exhibition will remain open until April 1st, 2011.
