A Women’s Photo and Film Exhibition is being launched tonight at the Mexican Institute of Culture in Belize City.

Marcelino Miranda, Press Officer, Embassy of Mexico

“They are mainly posters that were designed by different women and they are designed regarding the reality in many countries and in different cultures. And what they are trying to denounce gender violence and also to try to encourage women’s empowerment. Some of these posters for example portray the struggle by women in some parts of México where they have experienced really sad terrible experience about gender violence.”

Marcelino Miranda

A film based on the struggle of women in the Dominican Republic will also be presented at the launch.

Marcelino Miranda

“Regarding the subject of women gender violence. At the same time, there will be a presentation of a film, the Flight of the Butterflies. This is a special film about the story of a group of women under the dictatorship of a person in the Dominican Republic. All these activities are intended to raise awareness about gender violence and women empowerment. We decided to present it at the same time of having this photographic exhibition. It’s part of the women’s month activities.”

Jose Sanchez

“What would we learn from the movie itself, from this film?”

Marcelino Miranda

“This is based on a documentary based on the actual struggle of a group of women. What we are trying to do by this film is to portray a photo to solidify women not only against gender violence but also against certain systems of oppression against women and also certain restrains about society against women.”
