ICC: Americas Division 2 Championship: Belize stuns Panama

They advanced to 37/2 from 6.2 overs when rain came and play was held up for 2hrs 2 minutes due also to the covers leaking water onto the playing area. The game was reduced to a 10 over per side match and Panama scored 81 for 5 wickets from the allotted overs thanks to Soyab Chohan, 22 runs with 3 sixes and Haroon Badat 15 n/o with 2 fours.

Belize wins 3rd place in ICC Americas Div. 2 Cricket

Belize National Cricket Team

The National Cricket Team of Belize won third place by winning three of their matches, and losing two in the International Cricket Confederation Americas Division tournament held in Suriname last week. Panama had the same record of 3 wins and 2 losses as Belize, but finished second because Panama had a better Net Run Rate than Belize.

Team Belize’s third victory came when they won their fourth match against Bahamas on Wednesday, but they lost the final match of the tournament to Turks & Caicos Islands.

Belize won over Bahamas, by the score of 158 runs to 110 runs. Mykelt Anthony was the Man of the Match, taking 5 wickets; while Conway Young top scored with 42 runs.

The Belize team won over Brazil by 166 runs to 90 runs on Monday. Belizean bowler Dirk Sutherland was the Man of the Match, taking 4 wickets for 19 runs. Warren Anthony scored 45 runs, and Conway Young walloped another 39 runs, Mykelt Anthony scored 28 runs and Kene Broaster: 23 runs.

Belize also won her first game against Panama last Saturday by the score of 87 runs to 81 runs, with 6 wickets to spare. The Man of the Match, Kenroy Roca, scored 16 runs. Warren Anthony top-scored with 19 runs, while Kenny Broaster and Conway Young added 17 runs each. Mykelt Anthony took 2 wickets.

On Sunday, Team Belize fell to the host team, Suriname, by 8 wickets in a match which was disrupted by rain. Mykelt Anthony scored 32 runs and Conway Young contributed 13 runs for Belize. Kevin Flowers and Kenroy Roca took 1 wicket each for Belize.

Suriname finished in first place with a 4 and 1 record and played Panama in a 50 over playoff match to decide the championship on Friday.

As a result of its strong finish in the tournament, Belize will remain in the ICC Americas Division 2 Tournament and will improve its ranking in the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The national team, bronze medallists, returned home to Belize on Sunday.
