Hello all! Complete and total newbie here (I know you love it). My husband and I are looking to vacation in Ambergris Caye this year. We saw the Tree House and it looks pretty amazing. We contacted a scuba diving company about the time we were thinking about (September) and he said a lot of businesses are closed around that time. That being said - when's the best time go to Ambergris Caye? And is the Tree House as cool as it looks? Thanks to all in advance!

Hi Melinda,

September is during hurricane season and it is a time when many businesses close down. I'm sure other people might chime in, but I find that January/February are lovely times to visit. Early December also. I had never heard of The Treehouse until you mentioned it here. I looked at the website and it looks like a pleasant place. Hopefully someone who lives nearby or who has stayed there can give you more info. Wherever you stay, you're going to have a wonderful trip.

Tree House is delightful. Charming, well appointed and right on the beach.
If (instead of September) you can come in the last couple weeks of August you'll find all the restaurants open and you might even catch the Costa Maya Festival.
Enjoy.

Although we don't have much info from you yet, I'm sure you catch the drift about September. If you are truly flexible and want to enjoy the last great party time before Costa Maya, check out Lobster Fest in June. It starts the 19th, and everything will be open, and it is a time you will meet all the locals and have a party.
What are you looking for to experience for your vacation?

Thank you for the responses! We are completely flexible on dates. As for what we're looking for - just a beautiful place with friendly people where we can kick back, relax, and enjoy the beach! We liked The Tree House because it's literally ON the beach wink

We are getting scuba certified this summer and want to dive as well while we are there. This all started when I read an article about how Belize is a great place to retire. Needless to say after doing some research, we now have all sorts of crazy wonderful ideas now about how maybe - someday - after we raise kids we can retire someplace beautiful like Belize!

So excited about this trip, still in early stages of planning. We don't know anyone who's been to Belize so message boards like this are extremely helpful. Thanks again for any input you're willing to share!

No one closes in Sept because its hurricane season. Some close because Sept and Oct are traditionally our slowest months and time for vacation, renovations, etc. But you will find some dive shops, tour operators, restaurants, bars and shops open thru those months. Weather in Sept is usually lovely, with nice blue skies and billowy clouds, comfortable temps. Sept is one of our most festive months with two big holidays-Sept 10 is St George's Caye day with sailing regattas and Carnival and Sept 21, to celebrate Independence. This yr Sept 10 falls on a weekend, so it will be a long holiday weekend and expect many Belizeans on the caye celebrating and vacationing along with you. If you can pick any month, I love March and April. But Sept is just fine if that is when you have vacation. Hurricane season is June 1-Nov 30.

If you're coming to Dive then September is a great time. The seas are warm and calm and the dive boats are not crowded. My absolute favorite time to be on the island is spring. Sunny and warm everyday with plenty of breeze to keep you cool. It is also dry, so no bugs!

Katie and JZB are correct it not that its the peak of hurricane season, weather has nothing to do with it the weathers is fine. Its the fact the tourist in the US and Canada don't go on vacations in Sept. and the island is nearly a ghost town from lack of tourist.
Many business close rather than loose money trying to stay open. They go on vacation themselves. Were closing September 4th and reopen Oct. 1st as is Las Terrazas and many other hotels and diveshops.

Okay, pls call around and find out which businesses will be open in Sept so potential visitors can see what they can do, where they can eat, drink, shop, play and have a great experience, whats on for Sept 10 and Sept 21, etc. Post it here. And my birthday is in Sept, don't forget that....
