I kept my mouth shut during the recent posts about the diving in Belize by someone. But I just had to point this out: The July 2001 issue of Sport Diver, the PADI publication has as their feature article: Experience the Best of Belize. The diver writing this article has spent more than 1,000 days diving around Belize and had nothing but praise: '...makes Belize an incredible place for scuba divers." This is coming from an expert--Belize it!

Good point. The diving can vary a lot within a given area and especially a given site. I had real good luck with big animals encounter. Another person might have less luck depending on a lot of things.

I saw so many turtles I wondered if they were gathering for breeding or something. If what I saw was a fair sampling of the resident population of turtles in AC waters, then AC is truely blessed.

Whatever the case, I was more then a little impressed with the diving around AC, and in all humility, I've been diving a few places. On the other hand it's not the place to go for wreck diving.

Something comes to mind about someone saying sometime that "Happyness occurs when reality exceeds expectations."

I'm the person who posted those "recent posts about the diving in Belize". SO. Are you trying to start it all over again? Tell me, would you think a WRITER or PUBLISHER or a EDITOR would ever say or print anything against a paying advertiser? They have to say nothing but good so the ad dollar keeps coming in. Seems you get all your info from the dive trade rags. You are like many of those who ragged on my trip report and have not ever been there or do not even dive, so keep it up and prolong it. I have tried to change my posts to the positive, so if you want to go at it again so be it.

Idaho, for heaven's sake! Take an anger management course or something. Govikes dives the area. Govikes wants to post an item that says positive things about the diving that supports govikes own experiences (and by the way, mine, and Florian's and Scubalady's and I could go on and on) We are all sorry that you did not enjoy the area as much as we do. We are all sorry that your vacation was a bust. We are all sorry that posting here makes you unhappy. You should probably quit reliving those bad experiences and make yourself happier and less stressed by not continuing to read this board.

Ditto on seashells comments. I cannot help but wonder about what is says about someone who continues to 'lurk' about a website that is about a place that you have nothing good to say about. You've spoken your piece, we've heard it. Maybe you can find a website on the places you do like. And go there.

I have to add my own two cents, as I've been "lurking" about this board for a few months now. I'm working in my home office today, sipping on a cup of "gallon jug" coffee and enjoying some thoughts of AC.

I read idaho divers trip report before I left for my trip to AC ( may 11-20). I was a little apprehensive after reading the report, as on a previous dive trip we had the pleasure of having a 13 year old kid as our divemaster!!! (this was in Puerto vallarta mexico.. not a dive destination, but still a good place to see giant rays and some pelagics).

Well.. after reading all the other postings, we decided on amigos del mar. This was the best move we could have made. We had the owner, panga chaz, as our divemaster and the trip was fantastic!!! One of our best dive experiences ever. ( and that was considering the fact that I had a slight head cold and had a VERY hard time equalizing on the way up, so I could only dive one time). BUT, we saw lots of sea life, and had a chance to have a close encounter with a sea turtle ( very cool). To be fair, the coral and sea life wasn't what you would expect to see if you spent all your time reading diving magazines..not alot of that type of vibrantly colored stuff, but plenty of really nice blue fan and blue vase coral. ( besides, you start losing your ability to see colors after 50 ft or so)....

so, to sum it up. Don't go to Belize just to dive, there's a whole world of fun (literally) on land. We dive just as an added way to enjoy our vacations, and wouldn't ever consider a liveaboard or any type of dive trip. Go with low expectations and you'll always be pleasantly surprised.

better belize it!!!

Now now, Idaho Dive had good things to say and bad, his posts were not totally negative.

He is an experienced diver, and he has his opinion. Me, the diving off Ambergris Caye brings tears to my eyes, cause i grew up in oklahoma where our lakes are mud and you are lucky to see a snapping turtle. I had no idea there were so many types of animal and plant life under the sea, so easily visible as it is in San Pedro.

so my first divemaster was like a midwife to me, birthing me into a new world.

to folks who have been diving for many years, and have been to the best places on the planet, would have a much different perspective on the exact same vista.
