The Best Medicine - by Joey Clarke

Coming soon to San Pedro - the newest presentation from the makers of last year's most popular plays: the bewitching drama Devilish and the hilarious comedy Trea$ure. On Friday April 15, Gato Negro Productions presents the Best Medicine at the Paradise Theater.

Joining to celebrate writer-director Joey Clarke's play on the Paradise Theater stage will be rising and established Belizean stars: Diane Garcia, Pamela Gideon, Berne Velasquez, Jason Pascual, Rodvern Lino, Ishmael Quiroz, Chris Gordon and Tessa Matus.

The Best Medicine tells the story of old Mr Moody, who likes to believe he is very, very sick. In fact he believes it so much, he can't see what's going on around him: his scheming wife, his daughter's new love interest, and his crafty housekeeper who thinks she can fix everything. When he tries to marry his daughter off to his doctor's nephew, his whole world turns upside down. Featuring four original songs, and enough comedy to fill a dozen bedpans, the Best Medicine shows what real health is, with the class and polish our audiences have come to expect.

For those of you who missed on Friday night's theatrical performance of 'The Best Medicine" we must say that you all missed out on a fantastic performance by a cast of excellent Belizean actors.

On Friday April 15, Gato Negro Productions presented 'The Best Medicine' at the Paradise Theater. Theatrical plays are new to San Pedro and I would have wished more people would have attended the function this past Friday. Those who made it to the theatre were treated with a fantastic story of old Mr Moody, who likes to believe he is very, very sick. In fact he believes it so much, he can't see what's going on around him: his scheming wife, his daughter's new love interest, and his crafty housekeeper who thinks she can fix everything. When he tries to marry his daughter off to his doctor's nephew, his whole world turns upside down.

The play was downright funny with great drama, acting and laughs throughout the entire performance. It featured four original songs, and enough comedy to fill a dozen bedpans. Written and directed by Joey Clarke, the play featured rising and established Belizean actors like Diane Garcia, Pamela Gideon, Berne Velasquez, Jason Pascual, Rodvern Lino, Ishmael Quiroz, Chris Gordon and Tessa Matus.

Members of the Gato Negro Production mentioned that they will be back in San Pedro with more performances in the future. We surely hope they do!

The Best Medicine play brings the laughs at Paradise Theater

The Best Medicine, written and directed by Ms. Joey Clark and adapted from French playwright Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid, was featured at the Paradise Theater on Friday April 15th. With a cast of eight members, the viewers were kept well entertained. The play tells the story of a father, ill from just about every sickness one could imagine. His good for nothing doctors and pharmacists have convinced him that he is very ill and continue to add to his medical conditions with every visit, costing him a fortune.

Coupled with a scheming wife, Mr. Moody; the father, spends his days on a schedule of medications, reports and doctor visits. Well off by his own right, he becomes worried that his medical conditions would leave his only daughter Angie, penny-less after his demise.

In an effort to secure his daughter's inheritance, he schemes to marry his daughter off to his doctor's nephew, a young practitioner with a very short attention span. Unbeknownst to Mr. Moody, his daughter's eyes and heart had been stolen by musician and friend to her uncle; Uncle Hector. As the drama unfolds, Mr. Moody discovers that he is not at all ill, and that his supposed caring and loving wife - cares only for what he is worth financially. One of the first theatrical plays to be performed in San Pedro, the play was truly delightful and filled with comedic situations.

Gato Negro Productions, the company responsible for this well presented play hopes to be able to grace residents of San Pedro with many more theatrical presentations. The cast of The Best Medicine included talented Belizean Actors such as: Berne Velasquez - Lawrence, Joey Clark - Mr. Moody, Diane Garcia - Toinette, Tosneem Bhojwani - Angie, Pamela Gideon - Bella, Jason Pascual - Dr. Malaprop, Rodvern Lino - Thomas and Ishmael Quiroz portraying Uncle Hector.

Scheming wife, Bella is too happy to ship his daughter off to Boarding School, while she care for him. As she pretends not to be interested in Mr. Moody's will, she can not stop from prying to find out exactly what she would be getting.

After being encouraged by Uncle Hector and the ever sharp housekeeper, Toinette, Mr. Moody agrees to pretend to be dead, to find out what how wife truly feels about him.

A truly spectacular, comedic play. A blast was had by all in attendance.
