The San Pedro Football Club (SPFC) is busy preparing member athletes for the upcoming Under Sixteen (U16) and Under Twenty (U20) competitions. As recently as Tuesday April 12th, the club was visited by a team of four from the Belize U16 National Football Selection. The team of four has been travelling across the country, recruiting a total of 56 athletes, who will go on to practice and compete to become a member of the 22 member Under 16 football team traveling to Guatemala in July for the U16 World Cup Eliminations.

From San Pedro, four individuals were selected to compete for a chance to receive the opportunity to travel and represent Belize. Twelve-year old Alex Sansores will join in the rank of Goal Keepers, 15 year old Jonathan Andino, Mid Fielder and 14 year old Nestor Cerpa and 15 year old Adilser Mai will join the other 52 athletes who will travel to the Capital City for practice for the National Selection.

The talented athletes in the club have had many opportunities to compete and have been traveling almost weekly for friendly matches, to help build on their skills. On Holy Saturday, the team along with a rather small fan base travelled to Sarteneja, Corozal for a second time. This time around, to compete in Sarteneja's annual Holy Saturday football marathon.

The marathon saw the participation of twelve teams of athletes ranging from ages fourteen to twenty, representing Xkalak, Chetumal of Mexico and the Corozal and Belize districts. The competition started at 11:00am on Holy Saturday and at about 7:00pm the San Pedro U20 football team (SPU20FT) emerged the champions.
