This morning speculation was going around that the morgue at the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital was closed for renovations. And so that left many asking the same question - where will their loved ones be stored?

Today the KHMH sent out a press release saying that the morgue is indeed undergoing a phased renovation aimed at increasing the capacity and creating a more hospitable environment for the care of deceased persons. During this period, the hospital's secondary storage facility on the hospital grounds will be used following the strict standards of infection control. Renovations are also being done in the Accident and Emergency Unit.

People are cremating remains rather than using the facility recently.

But cremation is not an acceptable solution for all faiths.

I know Amanda, but the refrig situation is pretty awful right now, and unless you can bury right away, storage is an icky option and cremation the only solution if the famililes want to wait for relatives to arrive from overseas for a funeral. Or bury right away. I don't know the proper term for the refrigerated metal containers they hold bodies in at the morque, but they only have space for about 6 or 8 bodies at a time when the system was working and they have more bodies than they have space for and can't keep them at the right cool temps. I guess the ice man is getting lots of biz right now. Just makes you shake your head and wonder how such an important function was allowed to deteriorate to this point. Sww a hearst there this morning, so its open for biz.

Immediate burial seems to be the best solution.

Definitely the GOB needs to address this issue.

I can't imagine how difficult this situation has been for people that have had to face the decisions of how to handle the death of a loved one recently.

It is shameful that this has been happening.

And ask the gangs for a moratorium on hits till this is solved, as that is part of the overcrowding problem.
