Hi All - I'm trying to find Belizean Coconut Oil on the island. I used to buy it all the time, but seems like everyone is now carrying Philippine coconut oil instead. I've been buying it, but would really like to find a Belizean source again. Thanks!

Check with Zac at Healthy Belize he has Glorious Belize brand extra virgin coconut oil right now and will soon be getting organic stuff. He is located very close to Saga - just north of them on the other side of the road - yellow house with terra cotta tile roof.

Anyone have an opinion if it is ok to cook with it or not. I always heard that heating coconut oil changes the health properties in it.

I do use it occasionally to fry an egg or something fast but in general I use it on food after it is cooked or for things like salad dressings. Tastes great mixed with balsamic vinegar.

Many of the same qualities as olive oil. We cook with it alot but not high heat as it smokes and burns easily like olive oil. But in PG all the Maya villagers make it fresh and sell at the market, so we are pretty spoiled!!!! Fry some chicken in it and you will never go back, wonderful flavor but expensive!!

We switched to coconut oil a couple of years ago, and have never looked back. (If you want me to bring this book down when we come next week, just let me know -http://www.amazon.com/Coconut-Miracle-Previously-published-Healing/dp/1583332049 )

It's also the only thing I use for skin softner, face cream, everything. We feed it to our dogs in their food every day. We buy it by the gallon, which is why I so wanted to find it from a local source.

So glad to hear that Zac is carrying Belizean coconut oil. We use organic coconut oil in the states; it is wonderful for stir-frying veggies, in baking, and many other uses. It smells and tastes mild and delightful. And good for us too!

Ambergris Caye's history is one of a Coconut Plantation.
It would be nice to see a revival of that industry.
