SATURDAY / 28 MAY 2011 - TSUNAMI ALERT TEST

**********

NEMO will be making a first test of a Tsunami Alert program.

The first test will be Saturday, 28 May.

For areas north of the bridge, the plan is to have an emergency vehicle drive up the road with a siren or something similar some kind blasting away. This should happen sometime between 7 and 10 am.

The main point of the exercise is to find out if you hear the alarm and know what it is. Kindly inform your neighbors and employees so that they know what is happening.

Don't panic when you hear the alarm - it's an exercise ....

I though this was a joke but it seems they are serious.
Tsunamis happen in the pacific, were in the Caribbean.
Does it seem extremely unlikely to anyone else.
Has there ever been one in recorded history in our part of the world?
Oh wait wasn't there one when that meteor hit about 60 million years back?
You can never be to prepared!

Looks like other Caribbean countries are also doing tsunami warning preparations. This article states that over the past 500 years 80% of tsunamis have occurred in the Pacific while 10% have occurred in the Caribbean. Wonder where the other 10% occurred?

My only concern is the truck and the siren. Would like people to not freak out --- pretty sure the dogs will be doing a major howling act.
