It is with great excitement and pleasure to announce Hopkins Mango Festival and Culture Jam, taking place Saturday, June 4th 2011 from 9:00am until 6:00pm in Hopkins Village.

Hopkins Mango festival and Culture Jam is an all day event showcasing the wonderful and colorful culture of Hopkins in its entire splendor; and with it being mango season, we are using mangos as the theme. Though this is the first year of this event, we are expecting close to a 1000 visitors, with over 20 food and arts and craft vendors.

The festival will feature happenings from the North of the village to the Southside. The day will focus on fun filled activities and wonderful tasty mango treats offered by the local restaurants and resorts.

The days activities will include

- Bicycle Race from Hopkins to Sittee River / Hopkins
- Canoe Race from the Marina to the Festival Site
- Beach Volley Ball at Driftwood Beach Bar and Pizza Shack - Basketball Tournament
- Futbal Tournament
- Drumming Competition at Palmento Grove
- Dominoes Tournament at Sittee River Marina

Village shuttle service will be available throughout the day from the North to the south of the village. Hopkins Bus lines will also be offering bus service from Hopkins junction into to the village.

This is a not-for-profit event and is free to the public. Any proceeds earned from this all day event will be used as following:

Sponsorship of Hopkins Police Youth Cadets summer programs Donations towards purchasing of Fire fighting equipment for Hopkins Village Donation towards Hopkins Primary School Greenhouse project.

I'm not too far from Hopkins and will try and attend. I've seen some of the drummers there and they have some good ones.

Why can't it be a day trip? Take the first flight to Bz City at 7AM, rent a car and drive there for the day. Takes about 1 1/2 hrs to drive. Get back to the Int'l or municipal in time for the last flight back to the island at 5:30. Can be done!

Tropic now has a 6:30p flight from Municipal Airstrip to San Pedro, allowing even more time for day trips.
