Costa Maya Reef Resort
|
|
Can anyone provide a update on Costa Maya Reef, we have been owners for 5 yrs and every year in Feb or March for our trip to paradise there is almost a total staff change. We are thinking that the current management is either cleaning house or completely inept at resort management. Also noticed that the boats from the resort were for sale in the paper, kind of strange considering where the resort is up island anybody know if they were replaced?

We are owners @ Costa Maya Reef, & I think they did do alot of house cleaning when Northwynd bought out Fairmont. Some of the staff (all though I liked them) didn't always show up for work on time/etc ~ so management had to do something about it, so they did some housekeeping. If you notice though some have been there for several yrs. Go & enjoy!

Elbert, CoolCatMan is right. I'm am an owner (or was I guess) and it is true. I was told by the parent company, Northwynd, that they were closing Costa Maya in early 2012. My time share is to be switched to a resort in British Columbia. It's a bummer because I guess that means I won't be returning to Ambergris Caye this year.

I hope someone does buy it. It's a great location and just needs some renovation. Hopefully the staff can be retained. I'm bummed because my time share is gone but that just means I'll have to find a new place to stay.

I also recieved my letter from the parent co. & was also assigned a new home resort in British Colombia, Canada ~ was so very disappointed to learn of this. I loved CMR! We are deciding what to do w/timeshare now, as CMR is the only reason we bought into the timeshare thing. I so hope that they find a buyer, it's a lovely piece of land & you couldn't ask for better staff. Guess the only good thing for us is that we are coming down for 3 months this winter & found a rental.

Coco, my wife and I are in the same boat. CMR is the only reason why we bought a timeshare in the first place. We aren't sure what we'll do with our timeshare and we may just end up selling it. We may look for rental on our next visit. Karen from Northwynd told me the last day the CMR will be open is January 7th.

no offense taken, it's the internet so I don't always believe everything I read either. But that's why I contacted Northwynd and CMR directly.

Well, if I didn't own a timeshare @ CMR I might feel the same as you. However, as a former owner, it's pretty depressing to know that my timeshare in A.C. has gone away...

Stevie ~ we feel the same way ~ heartbroken! I guess the good thing was is that it got us down the AC every year till we retired & now we found a rental for 3 months ~ we do love it down there. I just feel sorry for everyone that thought they had reservations thru timeshare @CMR only to find out they don't gotta be scrambling! And also sorry for all the workers @ CMR not knowing if they are still gonna have jobs or what is gonna happen! I'm sure we'll go up for a couple of visits while down there.

Ernie,
'morning... you'll note that most of my posts over the last 10-odd years are tinged with sarcasm (just as I'd imagine your comment about Lan was) as I know you've been around these parts a while. Come visit anytime, I'm always there, usually in the kitchen!!! Our tubby lab will point you in the right direction of that!
Not to derail the topic of this thread... again, let's hope a positive solution for Costa M is found sooner than later... otherwise it's going to be a pretty quiet stretch of beach up that way (CM if closed, Belize Legacy, etc.)

Is Belize Legacy closed too?

As we all know, it ain't pretty out there!

Wow, seems like I just saw it on a real estate site the other day, all looking purty-like. That listing must have been a little old! Too bad; it looked like a cute place.

sitting in the dining room at Costa Maya now... still up and running and full this week. Rodrigo the manager is doing a fine job of keeping things running despite some of the aforementioned challenges. Still a great place to be. Belize legacy remains closed (2 years now) and it's a real shame... was a beautiful place. I wish a new owner(s) could be found...
