Hey all! I'm selling a Canon 18-200mm Image-Stabilized EFS lens. This is a great walk-around lens, as it can be incredibly wide or incredibly telephoto depending on your needs. It's also image stabilized, which makes it a great lens for birdwatching.

I bought this lens brand-new a year ago for $650 US, I'll sell it for $450 US or best offer. It's in perfect condition and comes with a Hoya Multi-Coated UV filter. I'm selling it because I've moved to a camera with an EF sensor.

Message me if you're interested -- more information is below.

Ben

Note: This lens will fit on the following Canon cameras:

EOS 7D
EOS 20D
EOS 20Da
EOS 30D
EOS 40D

EOS 500D/Rebel T1i
EOS 550D/Rebel T2i

The Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens is a compact and lightweight wide zoom range lens that is specifically designed for the range of EOS digital SLR cameras that use the smaller EF-S lens mount. Combining powerful performance with high image quality, this lens offers the equivalent of 29-320mm in 35mm format. It is ideal for use as a general-purpose zoom lens, providing coverage from a wide angle to a telephoto perspective.

The EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens incorporates Canon's 4-stop compensation Image Stabilizer technology. This allows the use of shutter speeds up to 4 times slower with no perceptible increase in image blur. Automatic panning detection automatically turns off the Image Stabilizer in either the horizontal or vertical direction when following moving subjects.

Note! Compatible with cameras that have APS-C size sensors

Image Stabilizer
4 stop Image Stabilizer (IS) extends low light options to previously unavailable levels. Photographers normally shooting handheld at 1/250 sec can switch on IS to obtain a similarly steady and blur-free result with a shutter speed of just 1/15 second.

Superior Image Quality
Two UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) elements and several aspherical elements are used to suppress the effects of secondary chromatic aberrations, to obtain crisp, sharp, high-contrast images without fringing throughout the zoom range.

Super Spectra Coatings
Optimized Super Spectra lens coatings and lens element shaping, suppress flare and ghosting - more prone to occur with digital cameras due to reflection of the image sensor. Coatings also help achieve true color balance and increase contrast for vivid hi-fidelity images.

You can read what people think of this lens here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=578814&highlight=18-200 . Doesn't sound a bad lens, though surplus for me.

Actually I think you can fit an EF lens to a Nikon using an adapter, and I presume that also applies to EF-S. I'll investigate.

I checked, and I have it round the wrong way. A Nikon lens can be mounted on a Canon body (using an adapter) but not the other way around.

I have the adapter to fit Nikon lenses to Canon bodies -- I'm surprised there isn't a counterpart.

My 200 nikon zoom got a fungus and i was looking to replace it.
Cannon lens are better sealed than nikon and aren't as likely to get fungus .

Apparently it's related to the size of the mount. The Canon mount is larger than the Nikon one so there's room for a Nikon lens plus the adapter.

Elbert - is this ANOTHER lens that has fungus? You had that in a lens a couple of years back, didn't you?

But you're right - my Canon lenses are at least four years old and there's no trace of fungus in any of them. But I do keep them in a padded & porous bag whenever not in use.

I think the best long zoom lens now is the Sigma 50-500 OS, the "Bigma II". I don't know for certain, but I believe it's pretty well sealed. And the performance is superb. Comes in mounts for pretty well all bodies. You can see picture samples at http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=841795

He of course keeps that inside his A/C hotel room at night (the alternative being to leave it out on the veranda with a "please steal" sticker on it). He opened it to use a camera and found every lens fogged up internally. He was distraught that there might be permanent damage to every lens he owns, as well there might. And to the electronics of the bodies as well.

mine are loaded with pelican's own dessicant things,, at least 3 in each. cook them in the oven when they need recharged.
i don't live with AC so i have none of those fog issues. of course going from hot and humid straight into AC with no adjustment period is not a good thing. like when i get out of the AC in the truck and my glasses fog up.
years ago, before digital, i packed up the gear in the camera bag and put it on the shelf. when i made the switch to digital, all my lens needed to be sent in for refurbishment.
since then everything lives in the pelicans.
seems to be the answer for me.

I have always kept my Minolta circa 1970 model in and old army ammo case with desicant. No problems yet. Always fun going thru the airports till I repainted it.

Yes its a second lens with the fungus.
I have a sort of philosophy with my camera care, called 'healthy disrespect' I cant allow myself to care more for the equipment than the shot. If its in a case it isn't ready when the shot opportunity presents.
I get the fungus because the camera is always with me and I'm in the weather... its just a price i pay for having my camera with me.
my teacher called lens caps 'Never-ready caps'.
a scratch on the lens is the price of a shot of a lifetime.

Elbert -
I find that exposed glass soon acquires a patina of greasy salt that fogs any image, and cleaning it takes far longer than removing & replacing the lens cap. But if I'm using a long lens I always use a lens hood, and if (as is usual) I'm keeping the camera/lens in an ever-ready case which covers and protects the lens I usually leave the cap off.

When you're carrying an extra lens to switch to as needed, do you leave the body-end lens cap on or off?
