Great and unexpected experiences occur in Ambergris Caye all the time! You never know when you will encounter a friendly pod of dolphins that come close enough to touch, encounter the majestic howler monkeys in our jungles or spot the giant whale shark off our shores.

Staff and guests at the Grand Caribe Resort in North Ambergris Caye had such an experience last week as they encountered baby sea turtles along the stretch of the property's beach. To the gardeners' surprise, they started seeing them walking around the garden by the beach; Loggerhead Sea Turtle hatchlings all over the place!

They could not find the nest, but they decided to help them along their way into the sea. Management at Grand Caribe then decided to get in touch with the Hol Chan Marine Reserve office so that professional help could go see the turtles. They were kind enough to visit the beach and even took a few of the turtles for observation and later release at the Hol Chan Reserve.

"We are just happy to have had the opportunity of seeing the baby turtles, which is something that doesn't happen too often on the beaches of San Pedro" stated the staff at Grand Caribe.

*Three varieties of sea turtles (green, hawksbill, and loggerhead) nest in Belize and are regularly located between the coast and the barrier reef. Sea turtles are drawn to Belize because of the ideal feeding and nesting grounds. Although they spend their entire lives in the ocean, sea turtles return to sandy beaches to lay their eggs; they nest on the northern part of the island from Robles Point to Rocky Point.

Another great reason to visit San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, we say!
