Just a brief description on FB this morning, but apparently around 1:30 am a fire took out Neri's Taco stand and some other buildings next to it on Chicken Street. We just ate there on Thursday night. What a sad thing.

Oh no. That is my favorite breakfast place. I hope nobody was injured. The house next door was a simply wooden home and a barber shop. I am not sure what was behind. On the other side of Neri's is a concrete beam structure (unoccupied.)

I hope that that was some insurance in place and that everybody can pick up their lives quickly.

Me too Amanda. After Judy's place, this was one of our favorite spots...... the houses are so close together there, I can't imagine.

I understand 6 homes have been destroyed. Quite a few families have lost everything.

Kuddos to those who I understand got out of bed to form the bucket brigade. Am glad to hear that no one lost their life in the fire.

I am writting on behalf of the families that were affected. We are currently trying to organize and help all that we can. Indeed many families were affected and most of them had young kids. They all left their homes with nothing as there was no time to save anything all they have with them now are heavy hearts. Please drop by at El Fogon to offer any help you can. We need groceries, clothes for all ages from days old to over 50yrs men and women, boys and girls, building materials, monetary donations and any other things that you think will be helpful. We are currently holding a few meeting to come up with a plan for a fundraiser so any donations will be greatly appreciated.
Many of the families have had to seek shelter with loved ones thankfully, but a few remain homeless.
Let us forget about who to blame and let us band together as we always do to help out. You can call Susana Eiley at 662-2121 or Shelley Huber from Mama Vilma home at 651-3533. If you can't call but would like to email, send me a private message on here!

My wife and I will be arriving in San Pedro on Tuesday afternoon and would like to bring a couple of extra bags full of clothing (unfortunately we don't have any children's clothing) to donate....can someone let me know if Maya Island Air will accomodate us with a total of 4 checked bags, 2 carry on bags, laptop bag etc, or will that be a problem getting the stuff to the island? I already checked with American Airlines and they related there would be an extra charge of $60 for the two additional checked bags, but we're not at all concerned about that...just don't want to get all the way to Belize City and then find out we will have a problem getting the extra bags to San Pedro.....thanks so much....

Never known either Tropic Air or Maya Air have a problem with the number of bags you check. If push comes to shove and they have a full load, they will put it on the next flight.

TMM will be setting up a table outside the offfice to receive boxed or bagged clothing and non-perishable food items from 8am to 4pm Monday through Thursday of this week for those who cannot make it to BC's today. TMM is located South of Tropic Air in front of The Palms. No cash donations please.

You shouldn't have to pay American Airlines anything extra. You have an international flight to Belize regardless whether part is in the US. I always carry 2 checked bags, and 2 carry ons since it is an international flight no extra. Never had a problem checking all through to CC on Tropic even when checking 3 bags.

That policy changed as of Feb 10,2011. Only one bag is no charge.

From AA web page: Travel to/from Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda, the Bahamas and Central America One bag carry-on: No charge

One bag checked: No charge

One personal item: No charge

Charges may apply for additional bags.
