In response to your question. I do beleive that "gentlemans etiquette" , is a dying art form. Though; personally I have witnessed it on several occassions . At one point in history it was a common practice to just look at a person to determine their good behavior. A common expression of days long ago past was."He's a gentleman: just look at his boots! " I , myself have expereinced on many occasion a gentleman open a door for me, offer to escort me from point A to point B. I have one specific rememberance of walking towards the entrance of a building when a man who had been heading in the opposite passed me by. Suddenly the gentleman passed me by , ( taking extra long steps to pass quickly by) ...... and I watched in surprise as he extended his arm infront of me to open the door and hold it for me. To which I responded--- as, I normally do when kind gestures from gentlemen are extended to me. I said to this man. "why thank you so much. It's so nice to see that chivalry is not dead". I turned to look back only to see his female companion snarling right back ----towards me ! I have often heard other men say : 'how do we know what women want? I once held a door open for a girl and she went off on me ! saying something about how she could fen' for herself. To this man I replied: Surely. womans sufferage fought long and hard for women to have equal rights to vote, pursue academic excellence in all the letters, and the arts but only to make this world a better palce for all to live in. Not to be treated poorly and or with no respect from a man.. Then, I tried to assure him that a kind , gentlemanly gesture though not often seen is appreciated by most ladies. I reminded him as we parted ways not to be tainted by one bad response and , "that everything is sweetened by risk." In, our culturally diverse world I find it rear to see gentlemans etiquette. But--- when ever I do---- I reply as I've stated...I always turn; and smile to the man..and say without hesitation in an ingratiating tone..."why , thank you so much ! It's so nice to see...that chivalry is not dead." I beleive , "that in life there is nothing more unexpected and surprising than the arrivals and departures of pleasure. If we find it in one place today, it is vain to seek it there tomorrow. You can not lay a trap for it." I believe gentlemans etiquette is a "dying" art form...and rare to be seen. Which is why , when I am the recepient of it I savor the moment.
