“There will be a little more than twenty pieces. This includes mainly paintings but also photographs. They also have different techniques. And as the public will see, we will have six different artists who have different histories, different trajectories in their professional career. They have accumulated more than, each one of them have more than thirty years of experience. This is one of the most important exhibitions that the Mexican Embassy is holding this year and at the same time we are proud to presenting these artists, who actually four out of six are going to be present here at the exhibition. So this is going to be also a good opportunity not only to enjoy the work but also to have contact with them.”

The pieces in the exhibition will be for sale. The exhibition will run through to September second.

Mexico Shows Off Contemporary Artists

Some of Mexico's most recent contemporary artwork will go on display tomorrow at the Institute of Mexico in Belize. A collection of more than 20 paintings and photographs by six acclaimed artists from the Yucatan, Peninsula make up the exhibition. The Mexican Embassy's press officer, Marcelino Miranda, says the exhibit aims to inspire young Belizeans enriching their appreciation of art in all its rich forms.

Marcelino Miranda - Press Officer, Mexican Embassy
"This exhibition is called "5 + 1" because there are 5 painters and 1 photographer. And they have distinguished their careers because they have worked for over 30 years - each one of them - and they have developed different techniques, particularly the painters. They have specific techniques, and develop figurative paintings, and some of them develop abstract paintings. So I think that this is a very good opportunity for those who are interested in art, to look at these contemporary paintings, and the techniques and style that they are developing nowadays in Mexico. We're talking about abstract art, and figurative art. I think that this is a good opportunity for those who want to look at this kind of style in painting. This is not going to be completely alien for those who are starting to look at these kinds of paintings. I think they will identify that they manage different colors, different techniques, and what they are trying to reach is our senses and the way in which we feel different textures, colors, and lines that they use in their paintings."

The Exhibition which opens officially tomorrow night at 6:30 P.M., will run thru the 2nd of September, and the entrance is free and open to the general public.
