So last night my wife found and thwacked a small black scorpion in our closet, and I was wondering: I know the white/clear ones are usually the more poisonous, but are the small black ones as well? confused

I think we only have one kind on the island the black one, and I've been bitten several times over the last 20 years.
Its worse than a bee sting but not nearly as bad as a snake bite!
It kinda just ruins your day.
I got bit because of my being in remote undeveloped areas, it seems that bug spray around the populated places usually keeps them away.

malathion just sort of pisses them off so i use diazinon, but be really careful with Diazinon (IUPAC name: O,O-Diethyl O-[4-methyl-6-(propan-2-yl)pyrimidin-2-yl] phosphorothioate) its strong enough to kill people.

An fyi heads up Elbert, Diazinon was banned/phased out for residential use by the EPA back in 2004. Of course Belize isnt the US, just sayin. Hmmm come to think of it, thats an even better reason to know that.

Btw I think youre going to open water cert my friend Andy from Wasilla Ak this fall. He's looking forward to it.

You know I wonder if Diazinon could be applied topically to Lionfish, swinging a shoe underwater seems to lack impact

A friend of mine with a sushi bar in Connecticut would love to try it as part of his evasive species sushi rolls. How hard would it be to get 25 lbs. frozen to Connecticut so he can see what could be done with it.

I dont know if it was intentional Ron but I like the play on words using "evasive" species with the connotation of "invasive" species, they are invasive but theyre also evasive little bastards...

Back to scorpions. Aren't the 2 species on the island? There are the little blacks ones and then the grey ones who are a bit bigger and carry all those babies on their backs. I was traumatized just seeing the photo. I hate scorpions. They are just mean!!!

all the mommy's carry the kids around on their backs,,

momma and her babies,,

and they DO glow under a black lite.
momma under blacklight,,

edit: the spray works well, baygon and shelltox but NOT on a mom with kids. you spray one of them moms and you now have kids running all over the place. best then to use a shoe and deal with the gut pile later.

I just think thats cool as hell; but then I always did like "bugs". I suspect my wife will have another reaction, probably a polar opposite. I dont think I'll show her, maybe just let her discover .....ooops too late she just looked over my shoulder...uh yeah hon, scorpions...

A machete to the back of the neck and off with their heads. I hate chemicals, I'm more likely to spray myself then the scorpion.
Oh and I'm not allowed to play with machete. So I find them, he kills them. smile

These scorpions are definitely creepy but not as bad as lots of other critters elsewhere.

Scolopendras are way worse - unfortunately they live in a place where I have a second home. Eek.

A frying pan is my favourite weapon. I once had to use a flip flop as it was the only thing to hand, nowhere near as effective.

I usually just pick the little buggers up and find a nice home for them outside, but I have never been stung so I hold no grudge.

Oh, I should also mention that I use to keep one as a pet. His name was Bob. grin

Personally, and then only while brandishing a .44 magnum ala Hunter S Thompson, or my size 15 Teva. Otherwise I leave its use open to the discretion of the legal aged individuals involved, whether homonid or scorpionid.
