My boyfriend Wayne and I were on AC last January, and I was fishing for the first time. While I had his help as well as that of our boat captain, who was awesome by the way (Roberto, goes by the name "Chiney", and lives right next door to the Island Market if I remember correctly--just ask around and someone will be more than kind enough to direct you to him) Wayne will tell you that our first day fishing the reef, I had 9 fish in the boat before he got his first bite!!!! I caught baracuda, and three different kinds of snapper which we brought back to the hotel and had grilled for lunch! It was one of my all time most delicious meals, not only because of the wonderful and simple preparation, but because I caught the fish myself!
AMAZING! Even as a novice fisherperson, you can learn a lot and have a great time fishing on AC. I am definitely a convert, and fishing was fun both on the reef and from the dock of our hotel (Mata Chica) We mainly did catch and release (except for my lunch and the fish we saved for some of the great people that worked at the hotel) and it was just great, so if you are interested ask around for someone to take you on your own or go through your hotel (more expensive though usually) and fish away--I think you will really love it! We can't wait to go back in February! :-)
