Hi Neighbors ........
Here is the latest on the clean-up campaign:
BTB and Town Board, plus neighborhood groups, resorts and individuals are all pitching in as best they can.
************
Our first day of the campaign is scheduled for SATURDAY, 20 AUGUST
Time: 8 AM - ??
Where: the area to be cleaned on this day is from the Bridge to just behind Capricorn.
Two Town Board Trucks will be dedicated to the project. The Board is planning to send a backhoe or front-loader as well. Each truck will have two Town Board employees manning it. One truck will start at the the bridge and work north. The other will start behind Capricorn and work south. Volunteers from the BTB's Green Team are coming over from the mainland to help too. All in all about 20 individuals have indicated that they will be picking up trash with the truck-crews on Saturday.
Scott Harnish (NACNW & Palapa Bar) is organizing the section from the bridge to the Palapa Bar.
Tammy Peterson is organizing the section from the Palapa Bar to behind Capricorn.
Nano Gurrero, Severo Gurrero (both Town Councilors), Bob and Diane Campbell, Scott Harnish and Tammy Peterson surveyed the area targeted for the Saturday project. All will be providing direction to the work crews on Saturday.
Scott, Tammy and Diane will each have a case of 55-gallon trash bags to be used for this and subsequent projects. These bags should be available later today. Contact for Scott: 610-4322 Contact for Tammy - 610-0226 Contact for Diane - 610-5118
There are two ways to participate on the clean-up campaign:
1. Get some bags and start picking up trash along the road. See it , grab it, bag it and set it out for the trucks to pick up on the Saturday run. This will allow those who cannot come out on the group-clean to lend a hand as their time permits.
2. Show up at 8 am on Saturday at the Bridge or behind Capricorn - on the road. Bring your own mosquito spray and gloves please. We have scheduled a bar-b-q lunch for the 20 volunteers who have registered.
If you cannot participate this week, fear not! We will be having more Saturday clean-ups on subsequent Saturdays (every other week, weather permitting) and will get things cleaned up section by section.
Commercial establishments - stores, resorts, rental homes, restaurants and construction sites - please do a special clean of your site now. If you need help hauling things away we'll work with you to see that it gets done. If you need equipment to dig a pit to bury some debris please contact us - we can help you arrange that.
The Town Board is being very supportive and so is the BTB. YEA!!
Cheers Diane

TOMORROW / SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 24
FOCUS AREA FOR THIS CLEAN-UP: From Indigo (Mata Grande) north to La Perla.
The Town Board has a truck available for Saturday. Some very concerned residents in the Playa Blanca area have worked all week long to haul junk from lots, roadsides and lagoons - they have bagged and stacked the stuff along the road. There is a core of residents and staff from this area ready to load the trucks on Saturday. Indigo has a team ready to participate - the roadside from Indigo to Mata Chica only has a few bad areas, and these men will tackle as much as they can. If you live in the area and get this notice in time, please show up at Indigo around 8 AM and jump into the effort.
FOCUS AREA FOR THIS CLEAN-UP
From Indigo (Mata Grande) north to La Perla.
THE PLAN
The SPTB truck will meet Bob and Diane around 8 am at Indigo. We'll travel north to Playa Blanca and load the pre-bagged/piled trash on the truck. Whilst this is happening, the Indigo/Mata Grande Team will be bagging roadside trash from Indigo up to Mata Chica. The truck will then move south, picking up whatever else has been bagged and set by the roadside.
After the roadside trash noted above has been hauled, the truck will proceed to the piles of construction/landscape debris behind La Perla. This will be hauled away to be used for fill for San Mateo.
NACW/Tres Cocos residents / Buena Vista area residents / Las Terrazas / Seascape / Sandy Point Resorts / Flying Fisherman / Spanish Reef ......everybody from the bridge to Indigo - here is what YOU can do: Go out to the beach or along your road and pick up whatever is there (there will be some new trash along the road that was previously cleaned - not much, but a bottle or box here and there) and if you pick it up and bag it we can have it hauled away for you.
After this push we have a plan for another big CLEAN PARTY addressing the beaches north of town. We'll be working in collaboration with recycling professionals and students of ecology, BTB, SPTB and Tour Guides/tour operators. We'll make it a party and you will be invited, for sure!
Thanks to all ..... Diane for the Clean Team 610-5118
