The Belize Tourism Board Green Team, North Ambergris Caye & Middle Island Neighborhood Watch and the San Pedro Town Board continues cleanup campaign in Northern San Pedro

Belize City, Belize – September 7, 2011 – The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) Green Team once again partnered with the North Ambergris Caye & Middle Island Neighborhood Watch and the San Pedro Town Board (SPTB) in another cleanup campaign of the northern part of the island. The second cleanup campaign took place last Saturday from the road from Capricorn up to Journey’s End.

An inordinate amount of gallon bags were filled and four large truckloads of garbage were collected from the roadside between Capricorn Resort and Journey’s End! This included a large amount of household garbage, construction waste, plastics, metals, and household appliances such as water-heaters, stoves and air conditioners.

All the partners in making this initiative a success would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who contributed to the campaign’s success;
• San Pedro Town Board
• Sandy Point Resorts
• Tony from The Hotel
• Las Terazzas
• BTB's Green Team
• UB Ecology Club Members
• Star Stapleton
• Jim and Nicky of the Iguana House
• Bob Campbell/Indigo Resort
• Mario of Belizean Reef
• Scott and Jody Harnish - NACNW
• Tammy Peterson - Clean Team Motivator
• Nano Gurerro - Town Councilor
• Severo Gurerro - Town Councilor
• Fidel Ancona – Road Project Consultant

The work continues on September 17 where the team will focus on the area from Indigo up north. In addition, the SPTB will also establish weekly garbage pickup of thrash on north Ambergris Caye. Mr. Severo Guerrero noted “We invite other members of the community to keep Ambergris Caye clean and dispose of garbage in the appropriate manner. This means residents, developers and visitors as well.” For further information on this initiative, feel free to contact Ms. Diane Campbell at 610-5118.

Dear Middle Island Neighbors and Clean Team Members ---

In preparation for the pick-up on Sept 17, some of us went on a trash-survey ride yesterday. We started at Indigo and went up to Costa Maya.

Whilst some parts of the road are natural and lovely, others are absolutely awful.

There is no upside at all to this junk being tossed along the road. We all loose from this carelessness.

I hope you can get a sense of what we're trying to rectify, and why we really need your support.

Please dedicate some time from your day or a few hours from your staff to the major effort that will be made on Saturday the 17th.
WE NEED TO PULL TOGETHER ON THIS ........

We'll meet at 8 am on Saturday the 17th - meeting-place locations will be announced prior to the actual day.
If we have a good turnout - and if we work as we did in the last two pick-ups, we'll be done by 11 am and on the beach for lunch shortly thereafter.
There will be plenty of plastic bags, a truck or two, drinking water and lunch for volunteers at a beach-resort with a pool.
You'll have fun, you'll meet some great people and you'll do something really really important!!

Kindly respond to me with the number of individuals participating from your home or resort or organization so that I can plan meeting locations, food and water.

Thank you
Diane
