Teachers, students and friends of Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Primary School in Punta Gorda gathered on Monday for a ceremony to officially open a new classroom building for their school.

“Ceremony marking the opening of a new classroom at St. Benedict RC School was held yesterday in Punta Gorda. Opening prayers at the ceremony were led by visiting Fr. Leo Weber and Guest Speaker was professor of law at Drake University USA- Doc. James Albert who explained that money used to fund the construction of the new classroom was acquired through fund raising activities by students of Drake University who through the recommendations and efforts of Professor James Albert were motivated to help the Students and Staff of St. Benedict RC School. Principal Olive Woodye expressed gratitude to Professor James Albert and Drake University students for their generous financial support and to parent Pablo Chiquin and others who assisted with the construction of the very needed new concrete classroom with zinc roof. Other speakers who expressed support and gratitude included Toledo RC Schools Assistant Local Manager Joseph Cayetano and Parents Glendora Guy and Shauuna Arnold Sanchez as well as a number of students of the school. Blessing of the new classroom was done by Claver Parish Pastor Fr. Maurice Murray and cutting of the ribbons at the two front doors to mark the official opening of the new classroom were done by Professor James Albert and Fr. Leo Weber.”
