Cayo has a superb new piece of public art. It's a mural dubbed "land of the gods", just recently completed on the Scotia Bank's facade in San Ignacio.

The mural is the brainchild of a group of Cayo based artists working in conjunction with NICH. They have come together to spearhead a community oriented initiative known as the mural project. The mission is to create art that transforms public spaces, not only into works of art, but into pillars of cultural identity, according to a press release issued by NICH.

This mural depicts a transitioning from old to new, with images on the left depicting the old Cayo which shows a Belize trapped behind the blanket of colonialism, yet vibrant in its own uniqueness. And then, transitioning on the right into vibrant colors depicting the Belize of today.
