BDF Puts Second-In-Command On Administrative Leave
Tonight, there is a less-than-inspiring development in the case of the 42 weapons stolen from BDF Headquarters. We say less-than-inspiring because the news is not about the missing guns turning up anywhere or that the perimeter has been indomitably sealed: no, the news is that four soldiers have been placed on administrative leave.
The real news is that one of those soldiers is no less than the Force's second in command, Cornel Javier Castellanos - who was placed on administrative leave on Saturday.
All four will be brought up on military charges - but the force Staff Officer would not disclose names or charges today.
They will be brought before a military tribunal and can request a court martial before a judge if they so wish.
Commander Dario Tapia would strictly not discuss the case because he may end up being the one presiding over that tribunal.
The institution of military charges does not have any effect on the criminal investigation which is ongoing. If the evidence points to it, these men can still be indicted in a criminal investigation.
Of course, the bottom line on all this is that it puts us no closer to where or in whose hands the guns have ended up.
