The University of Belize is the site of a clean solar energy project at its Central Campus in Belmopan. The Project which is funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is designed to produce clean energy through solar electricity generation using photovoltaic panels. In that light, UB’s Scientist, Dr. Anthony Bautista is in Suriname representing the country at a two-day Regional Workshop, which opened yesterday on Research and Development, and Capacity Building at the University Level to Support Renewable Energy Development in the Caribbean. Dr. Bautista along with other scientists from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will examine current and planned Renewable Energy Programme offerings, strategies, and research and development work pursued by their respective Universities. They will also facilitate the establishment of a network among universities in CARICOM, the wider Caribbean and beyond involved in Renewable Energy research and development. UB’s solar energy system is scheduled for completion by August of next year.
