Horacio Luis Guerrero was able to capture this video of a Bull Shark roaming around the waters of Amigos del Mar dock during the night. He was only able to capture one of the two fairly large Bull Sharks circling the area. At the beginning of the video you can see that the beach is only a few feet away and you can see the shark is actually feeding, taking a gulp at a couple fish.

Although it is not a common occurrence for sharks to roam this close to the beaches of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, they do come close at times, much like in this video. The beach in front of Amigos del Mar is a very popular swimming spot, especially for children. We don’t want to cause a scare, but just warn residents to keep a look out before getting into the water. It’s an open sea.

Oh boy, do I need a shark lesson.....A couple of years ago we had about 5 or 6 of these guys come to the dock and gobble up all kinds of parrot fish.....The smallest one appeared to be well over 6' long and super wide, others longer than the docked boats......The dog was running up and down the dock barking like a wild animal....We simply thought they were super-sized Nurse Sharks......When diving it's easy to tell the difference,,,,,...How do you tell the difference from the dock?

Not common but not new either and as I was told by a local a time of year thing. Having said that it wouldn't be smart to be swimming at dusk if the water visibility was very poor.

I feel like I might go into some sort of medical shock if I ran into that in the water. It's a evening, night time event usually?

I've seen them countless times just after dusk, around various docks. Harmless unless you do something stupid.

Something stupid like taking video of them? LOL
When I lived in town I used to swim around Amigos dock and the Texaco one any time after 4:00 when the sun was behind the Mayan Princess Hotel. Some very interesting stuff comes out at night.

There used to a bull shark that hung around the TMM dock. I saw one last year out by the old barge landing south of town about 3 miles. They have definitely been around for a long time.

Feeding time is usually around dusk.

There is a pair that come in to feed on the fish carcasses at Wet Willie's dock when the Gonzale' have fish to clean. No one seems particularly concerned about them or their habits. Well the locals at least. Sunset and early morning? tiger time...

but as Elbert says they've been around for (a few million) years...
