OH NO -- and the sign will be one of the Ramon's-style signs that already blight the town --- THIS IS APPALLING.

SOME GIFTS ARE TRULY NOT WORTH ACCEPTING AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM.
(yes I am yelling this time).

There is not one person in this town who does not know what time it is - but we have kids without shoes.
Fix a pothole, sponsor a child - and don't toot your horn about it.

A question to all tourists:

Do big flatscreen advertisements on small tropical islands ever actually WORK???

I mean, how many of you have been walking around San Pedro, looking for say a place to eat, when all of a sudden a 24 sq ft flatscreen catches your eye showing you some crap cooked on rocks, and you say to yourself "Wow, I want to eat THERE!!!"

or, how many of you have been on vacation, feeling a bit 'lost' (metaphorically speaking) and looked up only to see a flatscreen tv which gave to the realization that yes, it's your relationship with Jesus that is missing in your life.

I mean does this ever work??? I suppose on a large enough scale it will, and we're rapidly approaching that saturation point.

MOREOVER, has anyone thought about the poor (not so single dudes) who are now gonna be leaving Daddy Roc late at night w/ some sweet young gal on their arm only to be confronted with a neon mssg about "being faithful!" Damn it!!!! Might want to think about that Elsa, you could be alienating your best cliental!!!

I'd say there is consensus of opinion(s) so far. But in fairness perhaps there are some folks in favor of it but wont post because they dont want to get eaten alive.

Assuming the feelings are fairly 'mootchul' the question I have is what, wait ,no, more importantly, CAN something be done about it?

I recall a response by a longtime board member to someone who is used to Stateside process that went something to the effect of "this aint Kansas...". I get that. What I dont understand is how does one go about putting a check on an unpopular decison made in Belizean political fashion?

EDIT: Ah Sprouts you beat me to it!

Typical of the current government, no transparency and back door secrecy, we find out about the projects when the construction starts.

Seriously, this is going to be an eyesore that those of us in the tourism industry will have to explain (over and over and over again) to people wondering what the hell we were thinking.

Other than "out finance" Ramon's, what can be done?

Clocktower Gate

If the office of the mayor really is that endowed...maybe someone with a more visionary and historical reference would be better suited for the position and not just someone who would vow to tear it down post election. Although someone with a more visionary and historical reference who'd promise to tear it down post election (and charge Ramons for the city's time) would be an excellent candidate apparently.

See my post above about how wide the road will be on either side of the monstrosity. Firetruck? Doubtful. Delivery trucks, doubtful. (yet another traffic problem when they have to make an alternative route). Golf cart? yes. Taxis? Absolutely.
