"He was the man of the hour at a special tribute dedicated to him to honor his achievements and contributions to the development of Belize. The event which was organized by Rebecca Swaso and other Dangrigans was filled with keynote speakers and a mixture of Garifuna cultural performances. In his welcome address Dr. Aaron Lewis of the University of Belize highlighted some of Dr. Theodore Aranda's contributions to Dangriga including the improvement of the drainage system which now alleviates flooding in this municipality. In addition Wellington Elijio, a very close friend of Dr. Aranda gave a detailed biography of Dr. Aranda's contribution including his employment experiences at Universities in the USA to his political career in Belize. Elijio said that Dr. Aranda is also known for his contributions when he was a Minister of Government under the People's United Party administration between 1989 to 1994 where he negotiated the Cuban Nigerian mission which improved the health services in Belize as well as the construction of a new bridge located in the commercial center of Dangriga that now sits over the north Stann Creek River. Other speakers included former Mayor of Dangriga Alonzo Ogalldez, former Matron of Health Shirley Mahung, Gadsby Ramos who Dr. Aranda defeated in his early political years. Ramos admitted that Dr. Aranda has always been a hard worker and never backed down from his mission. In conclusion Dr. Errol Vanzie also sent his regards and congratulations among other speakers." "
