I am honeymooning on AC (Victoria House) starting September 3rd.

Which way is better to get there, by boat or by plane.

My fiance is a little squimish about getting on a small plane. Do the boats run on a regualar schedule that you can book ahead of time?

I was terrified of small planes before I arrived in AC, but once I flew Tropic Air, it was a breeze. Safer than the big planes.

BY PLANE!!! The scenery is beautiful!!
I have heard the boats are somewhat unreliable. You may spend several hours on the boat with all of your luggage when you could be enjoying a drink by the pool at the VH!

By air is definitely the way to go. 15 minutes by plane versus forever by boat.

A contrarian opinion:

On a nice day, a Caye Caulker Water Taxi boat is a fine way to go. You get to mix with Belizeans and enjoy the salt air. Not to mention it costs only a fourth of what the plane from international costs, and one-half of the fare from municipal.

I agree with Lan.. I always take the ferry when I can , Its a great ride thru the mangroves, you get to chat with the locals and slow down to island time. The price is right too!!

i have to say i'd agree with deano and Lan, although i haven't even been there yet, but... the whole idea of going to AC is to get out of the american way isn't it?? slow the pace down, get out of the typical run run run of life?? so it all depends, i would imagine on your desires.....but then again, you could be rushing to the island via plane to meet the Belizeans there......

My husband and I stayed at VH in December and we both absolutely hate to fly! We looked in the ferry and were told is was quite a bit less convenient and a very long ride. Once I got past the initial panic attack that I had once on the tiny Tropic Air plane, I actually enjoyed myself tremendously! Now the rest of my flighs were aboslute nightmares so I would prefer the 20 minute flight on Tropic anyday - and actually look forward to it!

It depends on the sea!! that's my reply...if the sea is ruff the boat trip is horrid!!! Bumpy and LOOONG..a real backbraker... but if the sea is nice it's a wounderful trip... Comming in from the international airport though I would not even think about the boat.. get into a cab with all your lugguage, get downtown...wait for the next boat... hot and noisy... no..I'd go with the plane if I came from the international airport.. at all times...

But from Municipal... well it's all a matter of the condition of the sea...
